<p>Low calorie diets – A low calorie is a very simple idea where you just reduce your calorie intake.  While a low calorie diet alone is a step in the right direction you must understand where your calories come from to really benefit.  It is important to know what foods to eat so that you will still take in the proper nutrients.  Simply cutting your calories drastically can be dangerous.  With this method I would recommend a through guide to get the best results.</p>
<p>Low carb diets – The low carb diet was very popular a few years ago but many still use it today.  I personally would not recommend them for any long term goals because they can be damaging to your body.  Without carbs your body will start burning fat reserves, as well as muscle.  So while you may quickly lose weight initially later on you could develop health problems, due to the diet being high in fatty less healthy food.</p>
<p>Pill based diets – While some of the pills do indeed help you lose weight they don’t really address the problem, unhealthy habits.  If your only goal is to lose weight and you have no interest in changing your diet these may get you there, but remember skinny doesn’t always equal healthy.</p>
<p>Exercise and healthy eating – This is the one you learned in school growing up.  It’s straight forward and effective but can be hard to follow if you lead a busy life.  Any amount of exercise you can fit in to your schedule will help, as will replacing a healthy snack instead of something processed.</p>
<p>Part of any good diet that many people don’t think about is support.  By that I mean having friends, family or a joining a structured dieting plan.  You are more likely to succeed if you have people around either progressing with you or encouraging you.  I know it may sound silly but it really is a big help. </p>

That is why in this article I have done the hard work for you and listed 6 criteria that should be part of any successful diet plan.</p>

1) Honesty:- Many diet plans are full of outrageous claims such as &#8220;rub this gel on your stomach and watch the fat melt away&#8221;. However, can you really trust a diet plan which makes such unrealistic claims? Losing weight is not easy and any diet plan which argues otherwise is likely to be fraudulent and ineffective. Try to look for diet plans which make more honest claims such as &#8220;lose 10 pounds in one month&#8221; as these are likely to be the ones that really work.</p>

2) Evidence:- If a diet plan really is effective then there should be some clinical evidence which says so. The end result is that you consume too many calories and sabotage all your good efforts on the diet plan. To avoid this you should look for diet plans which restrict the foods you eat but still let you treat yourself from time to time.</p>

4) No Side Effects:- Even if a diet plan helps you lose weight in a way that works for you, you do not want to be subjected to any unpleasant side effects.
