			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Based on statistics, 3 percent to 5 percent of pregnant women suffer gestational diabetes. This type of diabetes is related to the insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes as far as the need for proper diet and exercise is concerned. </p>
<p>Due to her pregnancy, the pregnant woman is less mindful of her dietary intakes and has more tendencies to be inactive owing to her condition. It simply means that a well-placed gestational diabetes diet plan should be on hand to prevent this disease from developing.</p>
<p>On 5th to 6th month of pregnancy, the placenta generates a lot of hormones which block the functions of insulin. More hormones are produced when the placenta becomes bigger resulting to more blockage and greater insulin resistance. When the insulin could no longer neutralize the placenta hormones, this gives rise to gestational diabetes.</p>
<p>In some cases, other causes of gestational diabetes can be related to family history of diabetes, obesity, previous delivery with birth defect, previously giving birth to a large infant, or having too much amniotic fluid (a slight yellowish fluid that covers the fetus).   </p>
<p>Gestational diabetes disappears upon giving birth since the placenta is already removed. However, 40 percent of these women are likely to develop type 2 diabetes. </p>
<p>The need for a gestational diabetes plan is important because an uncontrolled blood sugar level can lead to the incidence of birth defect or miscarriage. Some may even require insulin injection but are never prescribed with oral medication to preclude any unknown side effects. </p>
<p>It is important that the diet plan be created with the gestational diabetic patient in mind. This should be a well-balanced diet to support the pregnancy of gestational diabetic women. </p>
<p>Care should be given not to include a drastic reduction of carbohydrate intakes since this will prove to be an unhealthy practice for pregnant women. In view of this, hereunder are the do&#8217;s and dont&#8217;s to be observed in formulating a gestational diabetes diet plan: </p>

<p>2. Small meals after 3 to 4 hours comprising of high protein products, e.g. skinned fish, low fat meat, eggs, nuts, cottage cheese, peanut butter etc.</p>
<p>3. Fruits, green and leafy vegetables; fruits should be eaten only during lunch or dinner but never at breakfast.</p>
<p>4. Milk low in fat or skim the milk before drinking. </p>
<p>Improper Gestational Diabetes Foods </p>
<p>1. Sugar, sweetener and sweets; Examples are chocolates, pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, soft drinks, marmalade, cookies, jam, fruit juice, table sugar, honey, molasses corn syrup and cornstarch.</p>
<p>2. Junk foods and packaged meals such as burgers, instant noodles, hot dogs, potato crisps, French fries, frozen foods, canned fish and canned soups.</p>
<p>3. Fatty and deep fried foods; Instead of using cooking oil, try to bake, steam, grill or boil. Grilled lean meat and fish are good but not pork.</p>
<p>4. Butter, cheese, mayonnaise, thick cream, sour cream and margarine.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but when I&#8217;m dieting I don&#8217;t want the whole world to know it.  I&#8217;d rather take my time, lose the weight and have everyone notice my body slimming down without them noticing what I&#8217;m eating (or not eating).</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Having people watch every morsel that goes into your mouth during a diet can be frustrating.  &#8220;Should you be eating that?&#8221; they ask.  Or, worse yet, &#8220;Oh, a few bites won&#8217;t hurt.&#8221;  Who are they kidding?</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
That&#8217;s one of the great things I found about the South Beach Diet.  It allowed me to go out to eat, head to a party and even make dinner for friends at my home without concentrating on all the things I couldn&#8217;t eat, or worrying about breaking my diet just to have fun.  The South Beach eating plan is so natural and versatile, no one even has to know you&#8217;re on it, unless you tell them.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
I will be honest though, I wouldn&#8217;t recommend going out to eat or heading to a social gathering during the first two weeks on the plan.  Since this is the most restrictive part of the South Beach Diet, it really is just easier to stay home during Phase I in order to stay away from temptation.  But once you get through those first couple of weeks, and your sugar and carb addiction has been broken, there&#8217;s no reason why you can&#8217;t go out with your family and friends and enjoy a great meal together. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
There are a few things to remember though when eating out to help keep you on track:</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Go Lean: Remember to stick with lean meats and fish.  Stay away from fried foods and those prepared with sauces.  Check the menu for baked and grilled entrees. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Order Extra Veggies: Unfortunately, many restaurants want you to fill up on breads and potatoes in order to make you crave (and buy) more food.  Substitute your potato with an extra side of vegetables, a salad or a fresh fruit cup instead.  And, if you want a baked potato, either cut it in half when it comes, or only eat what satisfies you.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Pass on the Bread Basket: While bread is not restricted during phase II and III of the South Beach Diet plan, it is discouraged.  Substitute a few wheat crackers, or cut veggies and dip instead.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Share a Dessert: You&#8217;ve always loved the desserts at your favorite restaurant and can&#8217;t imagine having a great meal without it.  Well, don&#8217;t.  But that doesn&#8217;t mean you have to eat an entire dessert yourself. Most people feel overly stuffed after eating a big meal and dessert anyway.  Forgo that bloated feeling by sharing dessert with someone else who wants to enjoy the flavor and texture of the dessert without stuffing themselves. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Eat Until You&#8217;re Satisfied &#8211; Then Stop: Today&#8217;s restaurant portions are out of control.  Most people find it difficult to finish an entire restaurant meal without feeling too full.  The trick to eating more sensibly is eating until you are satisfied and then stopping.  If you can&#8217;t stand the idea of paying for meal that is only half eaten, take the rest home for yourself or someone else to finish the following day. </p>

Party Tips</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Maybe eating at a restaurant isn&#8217;t difficult for you, but eating your way through a family gathering, holiday meal, picnic or party is.   Here are a few tips to get you through your next big bash:</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Avoid Nibbling: It may seem like a bite here, and a bite there won&#8217;t do your diet any harm.  But all of those empty carbs and sugars can add up fast.  Plus they will set your blood sugars on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs that can make you feel hungry even when you&#8217;re not, forcing you to continue eating.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
When you feel hungry, get a plate and sit down and eat.  Other than that, stay away form the nibbling table.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Choose Your Foods Carefully: Just because your Grandma made her special apple pie just for you doesn&#8217;t mean you have to eat the whole thing &#8211; or any for that matter. If you want a few bites, or even small slice, go ahead and have it.  Just don&#8217;t let anyone guilt you into eating something you don&#8217;t want just because they think you should have it.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
When it comes to other foods at the party, go straight for the veggie tray, lean meats and salads.  Eat them until your satisfied in order to prevent you from gorging on other less nutritious foods. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Offer to Bring a Side Dish or Dessert: Worried that there won&#8217;t be a single thing at the party that you can eat (which, by the way is virtually impossible)? Then offer to bring a side dish or dessert.  There&#8217;s no need to tell the host or hostess that you&#8217;re on a diet, just politely offer to bring some chocolate covered strawberries, a veggie tray and assorted dips or your newest, most fabulous recipe that you can&#8217;t wait for everyone to try.  Chances are they will be thrilled to have some help making the food. </p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Whether you&#8217;re planning a romantic dinner out with your spouse, or a birthday party for a friend, there are plenty of great foods to enjoy, even when you&#8217;re dieting.  Just take a few minutes to peruse the menu or food table and make your choices carefully and wisely.  You&#8217;ll be surprised at how much is available for you to eat on the South Beach Diet plan.</p>

1.  No to fruit juice. Most of you might think that fruit juice is good for you, but think again.  Juice is fruit with the fiber removed and in addition it is often loaded with sugar.  If you want fruit then have the real thing.</p>

2.  Stick to water. By drinking water and unsweetened tea (preferably green tea) you can take hundreds of calories a day out of your diet and really start to see some results immediately.  Just 500 calories a day is equivalent to 1 pound a week and you can get that in just a few sodas or fruit juices.  Plus water helps to flush your system.  Remember that our bodies are 90% water and drinking enough helps every part of you.</p>

3.  Create a new good habit each day. Many of us eat the same things day in and day out, not because they are nourishing, but because it has become a habit.  Change those bad habits into good habits.  For example, I switched from a snickers bar in the middle of the afternoon to a piece of fruit. 4.  Change your lifestyle. Your diet is not a one time event, it is the way you feed your body day in and day out. <p>I was convinced I had a Loch Ness Monster in my colon and that was making me fat! But the colon cleanser I purchased only left me with a very sore butt, some leafy-looking things in the toilet and not a single pound lost.</p>
<p>Now I was convinced that I needed a super-duper-ultra fat burner &#8211; one that would melt away the fat while I sat on my butt doing nothing!</p>
<p>After thousands of dollars and lots of false hope, I realized that the only way I was going to achieve the lean body that I desired was to come up with a solid nutrition and exercise plan, and to add supplements that were backed by solid science.</p>
<p>YOU ARE LETTING OTHERS KNOCK YOU OFF-TRACK</p>
<p>My family is full of enablers &#8211; they mean well, but they were not sensitive to the fact that I was serious about staying on track with my weight loss diet. &#8220;C&#8217;mon a little bit won&#8217;t hurt&#8221; or &#8220;you can diet tomorrow&#8221; was all it took to convince me to eat. Within 30 minutes I had eaten myself stupid and undone all of the positive progress that I had spent the past week achieving.</p>
<p>Let those around you know how important it is for you to lose weight and what it means to both you, and them, if you do not achieve your goals.</p>
<p>YOU ARE NOT GETTING BACK &#8220;ON THE WAGON&#8221; IMMEDIATELY AFTER FALLING OFF</p>
<p>I would usually fall off my diet toward the end of any given week. It was at that point that I rationalized that, since I was &#8220;off the wagon&#8221; I would wait until Monday to get started again!</p>
<p>This probably won&#8217;t come as a big shock, but science now has proven that weekends can wreak havoc on your waistline. That was the conclusion of Washington University researchers, who found that even people on strict diet and exercise programs lose weight more slowly than expected because they eat more on weekends.</p>
<p>The verdict: People don&#8217;t need a holiday to eat more; they tend to do it every weekend because human lifestyle patterns can be very different.</p>
<p>There were two key takeaways for me from this:</p>
<p>1.The best time to get back &#8220;on the wagon&#8221; was at your next meal &#8211; do not wait until you&#8217;ve done more damage. <br />2. Do not let the weekends be different than any other day &#8211; stick with your plan whether it is a Saturday or a Wednesday</p>
<p>YOU ARE TRYING TO BE PERFECT EVERY DAY</p>
<p>Life is not perfect &#8211; and your diet plan shouldn&#8217;t be either. You can&#8217;t expect yourself to follow your program to the letter every second of every day until you reach your goal. If you do, you will ultimately fail. That is why you need to apply the 90/10 rule to your nutrition and exercise.</p>
<p>The 90/10 rule is very simple &#8211; if you are following your weight loss diet plan 90% of the time, then you will not be hurt by the 10% of the time that you are not. Your weight loss diet should include a minimum of 5 meals per day, with 6 meals being ideal. Following the 90/10 rule with 6 meals a day (or 42 meals a week) means that you have 4 meals a week where you can go off your program without halting progress, as long as those meals are reasonable.</p>
<p>Same rules apply to exercise. Let&#8217;s say your schedule permits you to work out 4 days per week. So in a month, you have 16 workouts &#8211; and following the 90/10 rule, you can miss 1 or 2 workouts without derailing yourself. However, you should save your &#8220;skips&#8221; for times when you really need to skip &#8211; like a poor night&#8217;s sleep, illness, or hectic travel schedule.</p>
<p>YOU ARE NOT SETTING REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS</p>
<p>It took you your entire life to get to this point, and you expect to reverse all of the damage in 3 weeks? That is what a lot of diet products would like you to believe.</p>
<p>You absolutely MUST set goals, but they MUST be realistic. What is realistic? one to two pounds of fat per week is a reasonable goal. The more you have to lose, the higher you can set your expectation. But if you are approaching double-digits with your expectations, you are setting yourself up for failure.</p>
